QANTAS announced the sale of its catering business to Emirates offshoot dnata. The deal will affect about 1,200 Qantas employees, including staff at Q Catering Limited and Snap Fresh Pty Limited. Q Catering has centres in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane while Queensland based Snap Fresh provides Australian made frozen meals for a number of airlines as well as customers in the healthcare and retail sectors.
Qantas Domestic CEO Andrew David said the sale would see Qantas partner with a “global leader in inflight catering” while dnata senior VP of catering, Robin Padgett, said the deal “reflects our confidence in Australia as a market and the ongoing growth potential into the future”. The deal includes a 10- year supply deal for Qantas, which will also continue to work with key suppliers in menu design.
