Travel Period
Nestled 200km inside the Arctic Circle, the original ICEHOTEL is located in the remote village of Jukkasjärvi, on the banks of the Torne River. For over 400 years, this region has been a hub for reindeer herders, the Sami people, and fur traders. Traditionally, Jukkasjärvi remained largely untouched by tourism during its long, dark, and snowy winters. That all changed in 1989 when the first ICEHOTEL was built, transforming the region and making the northern winter the peak tourist season.
Just a short distance away, the Abisko area, situated in the heart of the Aurora Zone, is renowned as one of the best places on earth to witness the Northern Lights. The Abisko Aurora Sky Station, accessed by a chairlift high above the village lights, offers an exceptional opportunity to experience the Aurora Borealis in all its glory.
