Welcome to Tokyo, Japan's exciting capital! From towering skyscrapers to eclectic streets and an award-winning food scene, Tokyo is Japan's most populous city and is regularly ranked among the most liveable in the world.
Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted and driven to your 5-star hotel.Depending on your arrival time, take some time to enjoy the afternoon or evening at leisure before your first full day of sightseeing tomorrow.

Day 2 - Essence of Japan A Platinum Small Group Tour - Tokyo to Osaka - Allocation - Current
After breakfast, meet your dedicated tour leader and get ready for your first day of sightseeing.
Our first stop visit today, in a city of such frenetic pace, is the charming Asakusa neighbourhood - a refreshing taste of older Tokyo. It's home to the ancient seventh-century Sensō-ji Temple. Built in the Asuka era, it's the oldest and most important Buddhist temple in Tokyo – be prepared for crowds! It's known for its imposing entrance gate, Kaminarimon (also known as ‘Thunder Gate'), with its magnificent red lantern.
Next, is the Inspiring Sight and will be one to remember - an interactive Sumo Experience & Show. Here, you'll learn a bit about sumo, watch ex-sumo wrestlers demonstrate techniques and enjoy achanko nabe lunch - a traditional sumo hot pot.
After this lively experience, we will move onto our next neighbourhood, Akihabara.
The Akihabara area is where you're mostly to come into contact with Tokyo's eclectic cosplayers. developed after the Second World War as a centre of the black market and today it's where all locals and tourists go to purchase electronic goods. It is also a mecca for otaku, or super fans of video games, manga and anime.
Our Welcome Dinner this evening will be at the Grillology Bar and Grill. You will have a dining experience that focuses on expertly grilled meats and seafood. The stylish atmosphere pairs perfectly with an extensive selection of wines and cocktails.
After a memorable meal and lively chat with our new travel companions, we'll head back to our opulent hotel.

Day 3 - Essence of Japan A Platinum Small Group Tour - Tokyo to Osaka - Allocation - Current
Today after breakfast and check out, we'll set off for Mt. Fuji, a Japanese icon and tour highlight.
It's about a 2-hour journey via luxury coach to the revered peak, Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This enduring cultural symbol has been considered sacred since ancient times. It's an imposing sight, standing 3,776 metres high.
We'll travel to Arakurayama Sengen Park, one of the best places to take photos of the mountain and Mount Fuji 5th Station, about halfway up the mountain at an elevation of 2,300 metres. You'll savour spectacular views over the Fuji Five Lakes and Hakone National Park.
This evening we'll be staying in a traditional luxury ryokan near Hakone National Park. We'll enjoy another Inspiring Taste tonight, a traditional kaiseki dinner at your ryokan.

Today you are free to explore Hakone and the surrounding area at leisure.
Relax in the soothing hot springs at your Ryokan with breathtaking views of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji. Enjoy traditional tatami rooms, seasonal kaiseki cuisine, and cultural touches like yukata robes. Nearby, explore Hakone Shrine, scenic cruises, ropeways, and museums for a serene and authentic Japanese experience.
Your Tour Leader is on hand to provide recommendations of what to do in the area.

Day 5 - Essence of Japan A Platinum Small Group Tour - Tokyo to Osaka - Allocation - Current
Begin your journey with a peaceful morning near Mt. Fuji, soaking in the majestic views. We depart for a scenic ride to Matsumoto, where you'll explore the impressive Matsumoto Castle, Japan's oldest remaining five-tiered castle. Stroll its historic grounds and admire its striking black exterior, known as the “Crow Castle.”
Next, head to the nearby Matsumoto City Museum of Art, home to works by celebrated artist Yayoi Kusama, who was born in the city. Enjoy contemporary art exhibits and Kusama's signature polka-dot installations.
In the late afternoon, continue your picturesque journey through the Japanese Alps to Takayama. Settle into your modern, comfortable room—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploration. Enjoy a peaceful evening walk in Takayama's charming old town or unwind in the hotel's public bath, ready for another day of adventure.

Start your day in Takayama with a stroll through the beautifully preserved Old Town, where traditional wooden buildings, merchant houses, and quaint shops line the narrow streets.
Next, visit Takayama Jinya, a historic government building from the Edo period. Explore its tatami rooms, old offices, and interrogation rooms, offering a fascinating glimpse into samurai-era governance and architecture.
Today we will enjoy a sake tasting at one of Takayama's historic breweries. Learn about the centuries-old brewing process and sample a variety of local sakes—from dry to sweet—crafted with pure mountain water and local rice. Many breweries are marked with a sugidama (cedar ball) hanging at the entrance.
End the day with a relaxed dinner at a local izakaya, soaking in the warm hospitality and timeless atmosphere of this mountain town.

After breakfast at your hotel, we'll begin our travel to Shirakawa-gō Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has more than 100 'Gassho-style' houses, which feature steeply-pitched roofs. Built many hundreds of years ago, these historic houses stand together in a beautiful natural setting. Enjoy exploring this unique village with its thatched-roof houses sitting among gorgeous mountain scenery, and make time for lunch here.
Following this we will transfer to Kanazawa.

Today is a free day in Kanazawa.
Enjoy a free day in Kanazawa exploring Kenrokuen Garden's beauty, Kanazawa Castle's history, and contemporary art at the 21st Century Museum. Savor fresh seafood at Omicho Market, wander the charming Higashi Chaya District, and end your day with a peaceful riverside stroll along the scenic Asano River.

Day 9 - Essence of Japan A Platinum Small Group Tour - Tokyo to Osaka - Allocation - Current
We will start our day after breakfast, departing Kanazawa, heading toward the serene mountain temple Eiheiji, one of Japan's most important Zen Buddhist monasteries. Nestled in forested hills near Fukui, Eiheiji offers a peaceful, reflective experience. Wander through its wooden halls, observe silent monks in training, and feel the tranquility of centuries-old Zen practice.
Afterwards we visit Nihonkai Sakana Machi (Sea of Japan Fish Market) and enjoy an included seafood lunch.
After your visit, continue your journey south to Kyoto, watching the scenery shift from rural beauty to urban elegance. Arrive in the cultural heart of Japan by late afternoon. Settle into your accommodation, then perhaps take an evening stroll through the Gion District, where traditional lanterns and quiet alleys hint at Kyoto's timeless charm.

After breakfast, we will begin the day with a visit to the stunning Byodo-in Temple in Uji, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its elegant Phoenix Hall and serene gardens. Admire its reflection in the pond and explore the temple museum's national treasures.
Next, enjoy a relaxing lunch along the Uji River, savoring traditional Kyoto cuisine or matcha-themed dishes while taking in the peaceful riverside scenery.
In the afternoon, head to the iconic Fushimi Inari Taisha, famous for its thousands of vibrant red torii gates that wind through the forested hills. Walk part of the trail, soak in the spiritual atmosphere, and capture breathtaking photos of this unforgettable shrine.

After breakfast, we have another day exploring beautiful Kyoto. We will start with a visit to the mesmerizing Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion). The gleaming, gold-leaf-covered temple beautifully reflects in the surrounding pond, creating an unforgettable sight. Stroll through its meticulously designed gardens, soaking in the tranquility and splendor of this iconic landmark.
Next, head to the picturesque Arashiyama district. Take a peaceful walk through the Bamboo Grove, where towering bamboo stalks create an otherworldly atmosphere. You can also visit the Tenryu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or enjoy scenic views along the Togetsukyo Bridge over the Hozu River.

After breakfast, we will leave Kyoto and begin our journey to Hiroshima. En route, make a stop at Himeji Castle, Japan's most famous and well-preserved castle. Wander through its grand gates, climb the steep steps, and marvel at the intricate architecture and panoramic views from the top of the main keep. The castle's pristine white exterior, often called the "White Heron Castle," is truly a sight to behold.
After exploring Himeji Castle and its beautiful grounds, continue your journey to Hiroshima.

Today, after breakfast, we'll start by visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a poignant site dedicated to the victims of the atomic bomb. Reflect at the Atomic Bomb Dome, a symbol of the city's resilience and commitment to peace.
Afterwards we enjoy a Hiroshima specialty for lunch - okonomiyaki. This street food is a Japanese savory pancake consisting of different fillings and toppings.
Next, take a ferry to Miyajima Island, known for the iconic Itsukushima Shrine and its "floating" torii gate. Explore the tranquil island, wander through sacred sites, and consider hiking Mount Misen for stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea.

Today, your bags will be sent to Osaka, allowing us to travel on the bullet train tomorrow without them. Please make sure to pack a small overnight bag, as you won't have access to your luggage until tomorrow.

Today, we journey to Osaka. After breakfast, we will board the bullet train (Shinkansen) for a comfortable and scenic journey across the countryside. The ride offers quick glimpses of Japan's landscapes, from lush green fields to urban centers.
Arriving in Osaka, the bustling metropolis welcomes you with its vibrant energy. Depending on the Shinkansen schedule, spend the afternoon exploring iconic sites such as Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, or Umeda Sky Building, or indulge in some of Osaka's famous street food like takoyaki and okonomiyaki.
