Day 3 - 17 Day Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia & Small Group Tour - Baku to Sheki - Allocation 24 - Current
After breakfast, set off on a scenic journey from Baku to Sheki, with your first stop in the historic city of Shamakhi, an important hub on the Silk Road.
Begin by exploring the stunning Juma Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the Caucasus, and the royal tombs of Yeddi Gumbaz, where the remains of the Shirvan rulers rest. The intricate tilework and impressive architecture offer a glimpse into the region's rich history.

After breakfast, we'll drive to the Lagodekhi Border, arriving at 11:00. We'll cross the border and change the guide and vehicle.
Enter Georgia and embark on a journey to explore the scenic and fertile Kakheti region, known for its rich history in viticulture and winemaking. Nestled between the Great Caucasus Mountains to the north and the Alazani Valley, this area is home to peaks rising over 3,000 meters.
Enjoy lunch and a wine tasting at a local winery.
Next, visit the Gremi architectural complex, dating back to the 16th-17th centuries and founded by King Levan of Kakheti. The complex, once a citadel, includes a tower, the king's chambers, defensive walls, and the central-dome Archangel's Church, built with square bricks.

Start the day with breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards, we'll visit the Tsinandali Family Estate and wine cellar, once home to the 19th-century aristocratic poet Alexander Chavchavadze. The estate includes a summer residence, a beautiful garden, and a winery, offering a selection of white wine vintages. We'll enjoy a wine tasting at either Shumi or Mosmiery Winery.
In the afternoon, drive to Alaverdi and visit the elegant 11th-century Alaverdi Cathedral, founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph Alaverdeli. He settled in a former pagan village and played a key role in converting the locals to Christianity. Continue to Ikalto Monastery, established in the late 6th century by Saint Zenon, one of the 13 Syrian Fathers. After breakfast, we drive to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, situated at the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. There, we will visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The first is Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century cross-shaped structure perched atop a cliff, offering a breathtaking view of the confluence of the two rivers. This site holds historical significance as it is where St. Nino, a female evangelist, erected a large wooden cross on the location of a former pagan temple. We then visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an 11th-century fortified cathedral and one of Georgia's holiest sites. It is believed to be the burial place of the Robe of Christ, making it a significant pilgrimage destination.
Afterward, we will drive along the Georgian Military Highway and stop at the Ananuri Architectural Complex, the former residence of the Dukes of the Aragvi region. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before exploring Kazbegi, a small town offering stunning views of Mount Kazbek, the seventh highest peak in the Caucasus Mountains. Mount Kazbek is steeped in legend, most notably the myth of Prometheus, who, according to the story, was chained to the mountain as punishment for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humans.
We then drive up to the Gergeti Holy Trinity Church, a 14th-century structure located at an elevation of 2,170 meters, nestled beneath the towering Kazbek peak.
For lunch, we visit a local family, where the hostess will demonstrate how to make traditional Georgian meat dumplings.

The hike to Gveleti takes approximately 1.5 hours and is of moderate difficulty. However, there is an easier route leading to a small waterfall, which is shorter. The choice of path will be done on the day as it depends on the group's fitness level.

After breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Gori, which is famously known as the birthplace of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. While in Gori, visit the Stalin Museum, where you can explore the house where Stalin was born, as well as his personal railway carriage, offering insight into his life and legacy.
Next, visit Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn town dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. Located on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, Uplistsikhe is renowned for its unique blend of various rock-cut architectural styles and the coexistence of pagan and Christian structures. While exploring the site, you'll also find ancient wine presses carved into the stone, a testament to Georgia's long history of viticulture.

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the Sadakhlo border, where you will cross into Armenia, changing both your guide and vehicle upon arrival.
Your first stop in Armenia will be the Hagpat Monastery, a medieval complex located in the village of Hagpat. Founded in 976 by Queen Khosrovanuysh, the wife of the Bagratid king Ashot III, the monastery is an outstanding example of Armenian religious architecture and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Next, drive to Lake Sevan, one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world, often referred to as the "Pearl" or "Emerald" of Armenia. Located at an altitude of 1,900 meters above sea level in the Gegharkunik Province, Lake Sevan is a breathtaking natural wonder, surrounded by stunning landscapes.
Explore the Sevanavank Monastery, perched on a hill overlooking the lake. According to an inscription in one of its churches, Sevanavank was founded in 874 by Princess Mariam, the daughter of King Ashot I.
