As we make our way to Dubrovnik, our journey will make a stop near the historic town of Ston, where we'll visit a family-run winery renowned for producing “Plavac Mali,” a grape variety closely related to Zinfandel. This vineyard carries a rich heritage, with traditional winemaking techniques passed down through generations—each bottle telling a story of care, legacy, and deep connection to the land.

This morning after breakfast, make your own way to Athens International Airport for your flight to Tirana.
Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. If early check-in is unavailable, you may leave your luggage and relax before meeting your guide. In the early afternoon, we gather for a short welcome meeting to meet fellow travellers and review the journey ahead. Meeting time will be confirmed on arrival based on fellow travellers arrival times (approx 2-3pm.)
We then set out on a guided walk through the city's historic and cultural highlights. Explore Skanderbeg Square, visit the elegant Et'hem Bey Mosque, and gain insight into Albania's communist past at Bunk'Art 2. Stroll along the main boulevard, pass the Pyramid of Tirana, and discover Blloku, once reserved for the communist elite and now one of the city's trendiest districts.
After returning to the hotel to refresh, we gather in the evening for a Welcome Dinner, celebrating the beginning of our Albanian adventure over authentic local cuisine.

The morning begins with a relaxed stroll through Tirana, soaking in the café culture and contemporary rhythm of the capital before travelling north toward Shkodër.
En route, we pause in Fishte village for lunch at Mrizi i Zanave, a celebrated agritourism initiative championing Albanian slow food and sustainable farming traditions. The seasonal menu offers a refined taste of the countryside and its culinary heritage.
In Shkodër, we visit the exceptional Marubi National Museum of Photography, home to a rare photographic archive capturing Albania's social and cultural evolution. We then admire the elegant 18th-century Mesi Bridge, its stone arches set against a scenic backdrop.

This morning, we depart Shkodër and journey toward the historic hilltop town of Krujë, a powerful symbol of Albanian resilience and identity.
Our first visit is to the Skanderbeg Museum, located within the walls of Krujë Castle. Dedicated to Albania's national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the museum honours the leader who united Albanian principalities and resisted Ottoman forces for 25 years. Revered across Europe and bestowed the title Athleta Christi by Pope Calixtus III, Skanderbeg remains a defining figure in the nation's history.
Afterwards, we wander through the atmospheric Old Bazaar of Kruje, where artisan workshops and traditional crafts line the cobbled street. Here, you may discover handmade souvenirs and the iconic qeleshe, the white wool skullcap traditionally worn by Albanian men.

Today we delve deeper into Albania's cultural and historical tapestry, beginning in the UNESCO-listed city of Berat. Within the stone walls of Berat Castle, we explore centuries of layered history, including the revered St. Mary Church. Inside, the remarkable Onufri Museum reveals a treasured collection of religious icons and manuscripts, showcasing the masterful artistry that has defined Albania's spiritual heritage.
From fortress walls to fertile hills, we continue to Roshnik village for a wine and culinary experience at Alpeta Agrowinery & Vineyard. Set harmoniously within the countryside, this family-run estate invites us to enjoy a guided wine tasting accompanied by a seasonal farm-to-table lunch. An authentic expression of local terroir and tradition.
In the afternoon, we travel back in time at the archaeological site of Apollonia, once a flourishing trade centre where Illyrian, Greek and Roman cultures converged. The day begins immersed in nature, with a gentle morning walk through the fresh mountain air of Llogara. After breakfast, we set out along one of the Balkans' most spectacular coastal routes, where dramatic peaks descend toward the shimmering Ionian Sea.
At Llogara Pass, sweeping vistas unfold at every turn—an unforgettable meeting of mountain and azure waters. Continuing south, we arrive at Ali Pasha Castle, a striking triangular fortress set on a scenic peninsula. Here, we uncover the story of Ali Pasha of Tepelena, one of the most influential figures of the 18th and early 19th centuries.
Time is set aside to relax along the Riviera's turquoise shoreline, with the opportunity to swim or simply soak in the coastal serenity.

Day 21 - Up Albania - Albania Uncovered - Tirana to Tirana - Current
This morning, we travel to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint, one of the most significant archaeological treasures in the Balkans. Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrint evolved from an Illyrian settlement of the Chaonians into a Greek city, a Roman colony, and later a bishopric. Walking through its evocative ruins, spanning the Iron Age to the Middle Ages, reveals layers of civilisations that once shaped this crossroads of the Mediterranean.
Beyond its ancient stones, Butrint also offers living traditions. On the waters of Lake Butrint, we embark on a mussel tour led by local guides, learning about traditional cultivation methods. The experience culminates in a tasting lunch where mussels take centre stage, complemented by fresh vegetables, homemade bread and local white wine.

Today we explore the UNESCO-listed city of Gjirokastër, famously known as the “City of Stone” and birthplace of acclaimed writer Ismail Kadare, whose novels vividly capture the mystique of this remarkable town.
Our guided tour begins at Gjirokaster Castle, the Balkans' second-largest fortress. Rising above the city, its commanding walls offer sweeping views and reveal centuries of history, from medieval stronghold to museum.
We then visit the beautifully preserved Skenduli House, an Ottoman-era residence providing insight into traditional domestic life. Time follows to wander through the atmospheric Gjirokaster Old Bazaar, where cobbled lanes and artisan shops echo the scenes described in Kadare's works. A traditional lunch may be enjoyed at leisure.
In the afternoon, we journey to the village of Labova e Kryqit to visit the remarkable Church of Saint Mary. Dating to the 6th century, this sacred site preserves exquisite 9th–11th century Byzantine frescoes and once safeguarded a revered relic of the True Cross.

This morning, we depart the cobbled lanes of Gjirokastër and step into the timeless rhythm of rural life in Dhoksat. Here, an authentic village experience awaits as we visit a local family and gain insight into daily traditions that have been preserved across generations.
A short guided walk introduces us to the history and character of the village, before we roll up our sleeves for a hands-on cooking experience. Together, we prepare and enjoy a traditional homemade lunch—an intimate and memorable way to connect with Albania's culinary heritage.
In the afternoon, we journey north toward Tirana, travelling through scenic landscapes that mark the final stretch of our adventure.

This morning is yours to enjoy at leisure in Tirana. Depending on your departure time, you may wish to take a final stroll through the city streets, enjoy a quiet coffee, or simply soak in the last moments of Albania's vibrant atmosphere.
At the appropriate time, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight. As you depart, carry with you the flavours, landscapes, and warm hospitality experienced throughout your journey.
