Day 4 - FSC - 29 Day Indian Ocean - Singapore to Cape Town
Just 37 km northeast of Port Kelang, Kuala Lumpur rises from its humble beginnings as a 19th-century mining town to Malaysia's dynamic capital. Pioneers like Yap Ah Loy, who rose from miner to political leader, and British official Frank Swettenham played key roles in shaping the city, building schools, roads, and the foundations of modern Kuala Lumpur.
Today, Kuala Lumpur blends history and modernity. Admire colonial-era gems such as the Art Deco Central Market, the Mughal-style Old Railway Station, and the Tudor Revival Royal Selangor Club, which contrast beautifully with contemporary landmarks like the iconic Petronas Towers and the National Museum, inspired by Malay imperial palaces.
Food is a way of life here, and KL's restaurants are not to be missed—savor Southeast Asian flavors, Chinese classics, or the unique Peranakan cuisine, a rich fusion of Malay and Chinese traditions.
Day 5 - FSC - 29 Day Indian Ocean - Singapore to Cape Town
Malaysia is a true tapestry of cultures, shaped by centuries of migration and colonial influence. Its population blends Chinese, Indian, and ethnic Malay communities, with traditions further enriched by Portuguese, Dutch, and British rule. Nowhere is this diversity more vividly expressed than in Penang, the British Empire's first settlement in Southeast Asia and the starting point of more than 150 years of colonial history, which ended in 1948.
Penang is divided by the Strait of Malacca into Penang Island and Seberang Perai on the mainland. On the island, George Town—the UNESCO World Heritage–listed capital—invites exploration with its ornate historic homes, charming streetscapes, and celebrated food scene. Pause for a bowl of spicy laksa or a refreshing kopi peng as you soak up the city's distinctive atmosphere.
Beyond George Town, Penang offers natural highlights such as Monkey Beach, with its white sands and clear waters, and the lush Tropical Spice Garden, a favourite for lovers of South Asian flavours. Wherever you wander, exceptional food is never far away, from humble hawker stalls to refined interpretations of classic Malaysian dishes.
Day 6 - FSC - 29 Day Indian Ocean - Singapore to Cape Town
Thailand's largest island lies just off the mainland's west coast, set in the shimmering waters of the Andaman Sea. Although Thailand was never colonised, international trade brought European influence to Phuket in the 17th century, when its rich tin deposits attracted Dutch, French, English, and Portuguese traders. Their legacy lives on in Old Phuket Town, where elegant Sino-Portuguese mansions have been transformed into stylish hotels, cafés, restaurants, and boutiques.
One of the island's most iconic landmarks, the Big Buddha, sits high above the coastline, rewarding visitors with sweeping panoramic views. The nearby Chalong Highlands offer further scenic lookouts, along with opportunities for gentle elephant encounters.
Phuket seamlessly blends culture with natural beauty. The island is famed for its tropical beaches, powdery white sands, and warm, crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and diving. Among the most picturesque settings is Phang Nga Bay, home to dramatic limestone karsts and Khao Phing Kan—better known as James Bond Island after its appearance in The Man with the Golden Gun.

Tranquil and refreshingly off the beaten track, Sri Lanka's southeastern coast offers a glimpse into a quieter way of life. Sleepy villages and rural farmlands give way to seemingly endless stretches of golden sand, fringed with coconut palms and lapped by the cerulean waters of the Indian Ocean. Near Hambantota, colourful fishing boats gather in the small harbour, their daily catch on display at the lively local fish market, while a modern port signals the region's evolving future.
Once inaccessible during the country's civil war and later deeply affected by the 2004 tsunami, this region has since shown remarkable resilience. Today, it welcomes visitors drawn to its natural beauty, warm hospitality, and an authentic Sri Lankan lifestyle that remains largely untouched by mass tourism.
Day 10 - FSC - 29 Day Indian Ocean - Singapore to Cape Town
Shaped by a complex past, Sri Lanka and its commercial capital, Colombo, are emerging as compelling destinations for modern travellers. Colombo has served as a vital trading port for more than 2,000 years, rising to prominence in the 16th century with the arrival of Portuguese fleets. Periods of Dutch and British rule followed, before Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948. After decades of unrest, the end of the civil war in 2009 marked a new chapter for the country.
While many visitors are drawn to Sri Lanka's pristine beaches and misty tea-growing highlands, Colombo rewards those who linger. The city is evolving at a rapid pace, with sleek skyscrapers rising beside graceful colonial-era buildings. Bustling markets and contemporary shopping precincts sit alongside ancient temples, creating a vibrant city layered with history, culture, and renewed energy.

Wander lively markets filled with spices and taste boulette, the local steamed dumpling specialty. From there, taxis can take you across the island's dramatic terrain, or you can opt for a helicopter ride to witness the striking illusion of an underwater waterfall.

Table Bay boasts luxurious seaside homes and a lively nightlife, while False Bay, tucked behind Table Mountain, features charming cobblestone fishing villages like Kalk Bay and a famous penguin colony.
