Start by visiting Batavia, the colonial Old Town, see Batavia Square, Sunda Kelapa Harbour and head to the Fatahillah Museum to learn about the city's colonial past. In the evening, dive into Jakarta's lively street food scene on Sabang Street, sampling local favourites such as Lontong Sayur and Gado-Gado.
Day 3 Jakarta to Semarang by Train
Today, board the train to Semarang, a unique blend of rich Chinese heritage and Dutch colonial architecture. Upon arrival, you'll enjoy a tour for a glimpse into Semarang's storied past.
Day 4 Semarang to Yogyakarta
As you journey towards Yogyakarta, stop at Gedong Songo, a collection of 8th-century Hindu temples nestled among the volcanic mountains, with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Continue your journey to the Ambarawa Railway Museum, which showcases Indonesia's steam locomotive heritage, a treat for railway enthusiasts.
Explore Yogyakarta, one of Indonesia's cultural capitals, in a traditional becak (rickshaw). Highlights include the Sultan's Palace, the heart of Javanese royal life, and the serene Taman Sari Water Castle. Enjoy a hands-on Javanese batik experience to find out more about local batik patterns and traditions, then head to UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple, a breathtaking 9th-century Hindu site and Southeast Asia's largest temple complex, and marvel at its striking stone reliefs and evocative towering spires.
Day 6 Candirejo Village & Borobudur
Experience traditional Javanese life in Candirejo. Enjoy a horse cart ride through the charming village, and learn more about the farming practices and local traditions. Later, visit Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple, known for its intricate carvings and 504 statues of Buddha. This UNESCO World Heritage Site sits majestically atop a hill with sweeping views of the surrounding lush jungle.
Day 7 Yogyakarta to Bromo
Catch a train to Mojokerto, then travel to Bromo, where you'll stay overnight in Cemoro Lawang. The real magic of the area happens at sunrise, when you'll be treated to unforgettable views of Mount Bromo as the sun rises over the volcanic landscape.
Rise early for an exciting Jeep ride to the Bromo viewpoint. Here, you’ll witness the breathtaking sunrise over the volcano, with its plume of smoke drifting into the sky. Afterwards, explore the Sea of Sand, a surreal landscape of volcanic ash and craters. In the afternoon, continue your journey to Malang, a charming city known for its cool mountain air, laid-back atmosphere, and colonial architecture.
Malang is renowned for its youthful energy, thanks to its many universities, and its welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy the charming street life before discovering Malang's colourful side with a visit to Jodipan, a village famous for its vibrant street art.
Day 10 Fly to Flores Island
Transfer to Surabaya Airport for your flight to Labuan Bajo, a small town on the western tip of Flores Island. Upon arrival, visit Batu Cermin Cave, a stunning natural wonder where sunlight reflects off the rock formations, creating an otherworldly light display.
Hop on a speedboat and visit the famous Komodo Island, home to the prehistoric Komodo dragons. Fringed with mangroves and home to a rare pink sand beach, Komodo's ragged hills are swathed in wood and grassland that is home to a wealth of wildlife that live alongside the legendary Komodo dragon.
Day 12 Komodo National Park
Incorporating Komodo, Padar and Rinca islands, Komodo National Park is not only known for ancient reptiles but also for its dramatic volcanic islands, crystal-clear waters, and pristine beaches. Today you'll explore islands such as Rinca, Kelor, and Manjarite, making the most of the wildlife sightings opportunities and spectacular landscapes.
Fly to Denpasar and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy time at leisure to relax or explore this tropical paradise at your own pace before a farewell dinner.
Days 14-15 Fly Denpasar to Australia
After an unforgettable journey through Indonesia, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Australia, arriving either the same day or the following day.
